THE STUDIO
It aThe Studio 6 is a low-cost hi-quality alternative to conventional shooting methodology. We specialise in tabletop (food and liquids), demo sequences, pack-shots, re-working existing commercials or social with new packaging or product. We also shoot elements for post companies to reduce the amount of 3D work needed by adding real elements. The studio has extensive SFX, lighting equipment and camera equipment. Crews are kept to a minimum to maximise cost and efficiency. Shots uploaded in real-time for client and agency comment and approval, and on-site editing means that a final film will be ready to view by the end of each working day.
NICK - DIRECTOR & PHOTOGRAPHER
Nick is an award winning director and cinematographer, with 30 years of experience in the world of music videos, films, documentaries and television commercials.
Earlier in his career, alongside his directing, his cinematography has won many accolades, one being Ernst & Young cinematographer of the Year in 1994. He has since gone on to win many prestigious CAD and D&AD awards.
In the early part of his career Nick lived in the USA and was chosen by some of the biggest bands in music to direct/shoottheirvideos,suchas DianaRoss, REM, Whitestripes, Anastasia, RadioHead, Prince, FaithHill, Simply Red among many others.
Throughout his career, Nick has worked on an array of feature films where he has mastered the ability to gain great performances out of the actors, an accomplishment which is evident in his live action directing. With the added experience of a music video background, Nick has learnt techniques which have garnered him a reputation as one of the global front-runners in the new wave of lifestyle, food, liquids and special effects.
His client base is testament to his ability as a director, working with a plethora of the Worlds largest brands on a regular basis.
Nick’s role is to provide his years of knowledge and experience in Directing in collaboration with Lili to create not only a technically sound, but creative and unique films.
If working on a Phantom high-speed camera with operator the reduction in cost over a conventional studio set up is 25 - 30%. Working with in-house cameras and equipment the reduction in budget cost is between 40 - 50%.

Real Time Client & Agency Supervision From Anywhere
The set up at Studio 6 is designed to put as much resource on to the screen as possible. An agency may wish to have a creative and a client representative on-site for the shoot, a scenario to which we cater as we have a dedicated client area. However, all interested parties can be real-time linked for a unique online experience, which eliminates travel expenses and is far more convenient for the client and agency.
Online monitors with HD cameras allow for real-time communication between client/agency and the production team. We use Skype, Uber and Zoom in both the studio, kitchen, client and edit/post- production areas. The studio has dedicated lease line internet to allow for clear communication and ultra-fast file uploads, designed to emulate an on set working scenario where the agency and client reside in an area from which is separate from the actual shooting area. The difference here being that this separate area can be in another city or country, but with the same level of communication. The system allows for communication to all areas of the production, which is essential when clients are too busy to attend or where travel and hotel costs are a budgetary consideration.
The work flow is not unique as it follows standard production protocol. The unique difference is the turn around time from confirmation to completion which is considerably shorter than a conventional methodology. This is because we prepare , script, test, shoot and edit as a single unit. We use the latest communication technology such as a dedicated lease line to ensure the fastest uploads.
Cameras
In House Shooting Up To 250FPS RAW
At Alchemist we have a selection on in house cameras and lenses to keep the quality as high as possible whilst keeping the costs down.
Blackmagic G2 shoots 4.6K up to 120 fps in Raw. 150fps in Ultra High Definition (3840 x 2160) and 300fps in HD (1920 x 1080).
Cannon 5D Mk4 shoots 4K in c-log to 30fps and HD to 60fps. Stills are 6.5K Cannon Raw. This camera is also set up for animation and time lapse.
Sony RX10 Mk4 shoots 250 fps in HD. Used as second camera to the Blackmagic and as test camera.
CGI
In House SFX
Elements in CGI can be costly to build in 3D, especially as ancillaries to the main shot. This can also be costly in terms of time. We are a low cost option with in house flicker free, high CRI lighting and a large selection of model movers and rigs to create perfect 3D move.
We work with post houses and SFX supervisors and producers to create elements (both real and model).
The studio has a back lit , flat light, dimmable green and blue screens to give perfect keys which can be tested prior to shooting, allowing us to achieve the best bespoke result for each post facility.
Time-Lapse
The Plasma Studio
The plasma studio is a custom built area that is specifically designed to see plants grow over a long period of time. One shot often takes a week to produce. Our unique ability to separate the plasma area from the rest of the studio means that there is no delay in shooting other elements and no danger of light contamination. This is perfect for a film that requires a single shot that would be impossible to conceive in a standard budget.
The Glass Oven
The state of the art custom time-lapse oven has tracking technology that allows for time lapse moving shots that can be incorporated into any background. We believe this is a first for the industry and offers a ground breaking new perspective to food films.
Podcasting
Pod casts are becoming increasingly popular and we now have a number of clients who not only pod cast but also record a digital version so they may engage with their audience. At Studio 6 we not only have the audio technology, but also we are able to create versatile backgrounds either by way of a key or by using one of our stock or a custom trans-light.
Editing
4K real time editing is available on site and all projects benefit from immediate uploads for approvals and rough edits at the end of each shoot day, allowing for client and agency adjustments to take place on subsequent days. In addition a full working edit is available for the on-line post house only hours after the shoot is complete with all project files.
The Archive
As an additional service to the client and agency we archive all the material so it is accessible in the future for any updates and /or changes. The client and agency will have unique log in for each project so they may access their material 24hrs a day 365 days a year.
SFX
In most cases SFX will be used in the demo sequences. Studio 6 holds a vast array of SFX equipment with includes: fire grills , dropping rigs, model movers, a glass oven, flame, bars etc.
Models
We often build oversize models to allow for greater depth of field; models are fabricated so that they can be used again and again which creates multiple shots that are perfectly matched and also saves on shooting time.

LILI - STYLIST & CREATIVE
Lili is a qualified Fashion photographer and Videographer who provides a fresh, modern and stylised eye to our shoots. Her skills within colour theory provide a unique insight into our set, and her collaboration to Nick provides the team with a dynamic of established knowledge meets new conceptual ideas.
Lili brings a young, more conceptual take to our studio with her creative directing ideas and knowledge of current trends and artistic ability behind the camera.
PAUL - PROP, SFX & MODEL MAKER
Paul has successfully run his own company, 3D Studios for over 35 years, predominantly working within the advertising industry, creating models for the UK and international markets. He started making models/food models many years ago, producing ice creams for the now classic ‘Just one Cornetto’ commercials, for many years his Walls ice cream models were used for all their point of sale material, you can still see a lot of Pauls models proudly displayed outside your local corner shop, Twister, Feast, Cornetto to name just a few.
Some years later he collaborated creating spectacular food landscapes, mainly using real food, utilising all the skills and experience I had gained over the years to produce some wonderful work. Paul now does his own ‘Food Scenics’ such as Constables Hay Wain.
More recently, as well as the advertising work, he is commissioned as a food sculptor; with his team he was asked to design and create a portrait of the Queen made entirely from sweets, commissioned by Haribo. Paul also reproduced the famous Abbey Road zebra crossing scene using purely breakfast foods, as one does!
During this time Pauls gained much experience creating all kinds of models and props, more recently specialising in creating food models; ice cream for international companies such as Nestle and Unilever, actually designing and developing products for the later. 3D Studios create chocolate models for Mondelez (Cadbury, Milka, etc.) also Nestle, Mars plus numerous other brands worldwide. Models are used predominantly for commercial shoots, marketing and point of sale.

UDO - FOOD STYLIST
Udo Reichelt-Schaurer has built a reputation as someone who brings considerable artistic culinary skill and professionalism to his work. A trained chef, he relishes a challenge, can think outside the box, and can step up to deliver on a tight brief. All this he manages with great humour and quiet resolve – he is a great collaborator.
Udo has worked on many editorial and packaging still and video shoots around the world. Locations include the US, South America, Asia, the Middle East as well as Europe. He speaks and writes fluent English and German, and some Russian.
